Meaning of COMPANION OF HONOUR in English

n ( pl Companions of Honour )

any of the 65 members of a British order of chivalry which was started by King George V in 1917. This honour is given to men and women who have performed a special service of national importance, often in politics or the arts. Members receive no title with the honour but may place the letters CH after their name.
