a US chocolate candy bar that takes several minutes to chew. It was created in 1896 by Leo Hirshfield, an Austrian who had settled in New York, and named after his daughter. During World War II , Tootsie Rolls were included in the meal boxes of US soldiers. They are now produced by Tootsie Roll Industries in Chicago , whose other products include Tootsie Roll Pops, Charms and Junior Mints.
