v 1. to close one's place of business for the night. ("It's 5 in the evening, so I'm going to close up shop.") 2. to "close" any location. For example, if one has people over at one's house, one could encourage visitors to leave by saying, " I'm tired, so I think I'm going to close up shop. 3. to zip the zipper on one's pants.
